Camerababy Elite Turned Sluggish Game Into First Victory

Hualien, Taiwan – October 12, 2011

What started out as a slugging game got heated at third quarter and turned out to be the first victory for Camerababy Elite Basketball Team at the Hualien Probation International Basketball Tournament. The final score came up to 97-91, with Camerababy Elite winning over Pure Youth Construction, who ranked no.2 last season in SBL, Taiwan.

The first match for Camerababy Elite started out slow. There was a lack of movement on both sides. Players seemed stiff and communication within both teams was somehow disconnected. Pure Youth took the initiative and led the game for the first and second quarter. However, Ginty was notable in second quarter, during which he scored 11 points.

The momentum picked up in the third quarter. Camerababy Elite led the game with improved communication and intense movements. Pure Youth, obviously feeling the pressure, sped up and intensified the game. Ginty went on to score a total of 21 points at this game, the highest scoring player in the game.

The intensity continued well into fourth quarter, in the middle of which Pure Youth caught up with Camerababy Elite. Players from both sides were pressured and showed significantly improved coordination. However, a number of physically contacts also occurred, resulting both in teams scoring eight points each with penalty shots.

With a minute left in the fourth quarter, Camerababy Elite was leading by just three points (93:90). 17 seconds to the end of game, Jamaal Smith and Anthony Davis took 2 free throws each and scored the last 4 finishing points to secure the victory. “It's very encouraging for us. This is our first game in Taiwan so it means a lot for us. We appreciate it and we'll keep pushing ourselves,” commented Coach Ray Johnson. “The opponent team didn’t have any size advantage, but all of them can shoot, and the pace they played was always high speed. We will have to do some adjustment to get used to this style of games,” continue added Coach Ray Johnson.

Other than Devin Ginty, Camerabay Elite had four other players scored in double digits in this game. Trayvon Lathan had 19 points, Jamaal Smith had 16 points, Anthony Davis had 11, and Nate Daniels had 10.
