The 22-Point Victory Helps Camerababy Elite Advance to the Final of HPB

Hualien, Taiwan – October 15, 2011

After a series of victories, Camerababy Elite Basketball Team played against Dancing Tigers in the semi final of HPB Tournament. With Trayvon Lathan sitting out and Travis Taylor playing limited minutes due to their injuries, the Camerababy Elite was still able to make it 89-67 at the end, a 22-point victory.

“Our defense was the key of winning the game,” said Coach Johnson. “Their 6’10” center, Ronald Allen was a very athletic big man, so we tried to keep him out of the pain. The result proved that the strategy worked very well.”

Dancing Tigers advanced swiftly and scored the first two points of the game. The Camerababy Elite got into the game slower. However, the team soon reorganized its offensive rotation with Smith in the lead. Ginty's precise three-pointers also aided the advance. The quarter ended with the Camerababy Elite leading 23:15.

Dancing Tigers began facing difficulties scoring in the second quarter. The Camerababy Elite's advance was smoother. However, the team mainly gained points in this quarter by free throws. Dancing Tigers was powerless in the pain against the defense of Camerababy Elite and soon fell behind in scores.

The Camerababy Elite resumed its swift attack rotation in the third quarter and the gap between the two teams widened. Dancing Tigers, taking the cue, tightened its offensive rotation. However, it met its match in the Camerababy Elite's defense and Dancing Tigers was not able to advance its scoring very much. Jackson closed the quarter with a tremendous block shot as a definitive conclusion for the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Camerababy Elite's defense was led by Jackson and Jones. Both produced effective blocks which rendered Dancing Tigers' attacks powerless at the start of the quarter. However, Dancing Tigers seemed to gain more momentum as the game approached the end. The pace of the game quickened considerably. Dancing Tigers twice seized the chance to cross the court and score unhindered. At the final few minutes, the Camerababy Elite countered Dancing Tigers with high spirits and managed to score 27 points in the ending quarter. The game closed with Camerababy Elite winning 89-67.

Anthony Davis scored the game high with 18 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Devin Ginty’s firing power had shown the depth of the bench of the team. He scored 17 points along with 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Robert Curtis with 15 points and Jamaal Smith with 13 points had scored in double digits as well.

Following the game this evening, was the Camerababy Elite’s meeting the fans and autograph session. More than a thousand fans came to meet with the players of Camerababy Elite Basketball Team. The warm welcome and support of the fans really made the players felt it like home, and the players had really enjoyed the atmosphere.  “I felt like I am a superstar. This had never happened before when I played basketball in the states,” commented Travis Taylor.

“Just one more winning and then it will be a happy ending for this trip,” said Coach Johnson. “However, I am sure it will be a tough game. The tournament host, the home team (Pure Youth Construction), and the fans will certainly want to leave the championship at home.”
